History Behind the Race:
Race for Research started in 2011 as an event called "Walk Away From Cancer". Over 200 participants came out to show their support for the UW Carbone Cancer Center, with a unified goal: leave cancer in the dust! They raised over $17,500 and could not stop there.
In 2012, they decided to change things up. Recognizing the urgent need for funds for new research, they renamed the event "Race for Research" and added the 5K component. From there, the rest is history.
This past year, they had a record-breaking year with over 1,500 community members joining for a beautiful morning on the UW Lakeshore Campus. They were honored to be able to offer fundraisers the opportunity to direct their efforts towards the cancer research fund of their choice at UW Carbone. Thanks to them, they were able to raise over $185,000 for innovative cancer research here in Madison!
They are excited to announce that for 2019, they have partnered with the American Family Insurance Championship to bring UW Carbone’s Race for Research to their lineup of events in June! Participants will run and walk on the beautiful Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Verona, WI.
Come out and race on Saturday, June 15 for another memorable and successful year!
